In the past few years, through my work with the Commonwealth Orchard, I’ve has been encouraging planting of trees and orchards across Scotland, and I’m delighted to be able to say that it’s an idea that is literally now, bearing fruit. Over the past days I’ve picked my first plum of the season, (an Early Rivers, and the apples and other fruit seem to be coming on well.

The Cancun talks have reached a conclusion, and have received a mixed but largely positive response. Channel 4 News reported that ‘the climate change deadlock between rich and poor nations of the world appears to have been broken. Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa signed off a deal that includes plans to design a Green Climate Fund, steps to protect the tropical forests and ways to help poorer developing nations adapt to climate change.

Last night we supported an event held by Mayday partner The Aldersgate Group to debate the long awaited announcement of the Green Investment Bank. DBIS Permanent Secretary Martin Donnelly stood in for Vince Cable and gave an overview of the current thinking; confirming that this was a ‘cross government priority’.
