Katie Webber HRH the Prince of Wales launched his Royal Tour last week as part of Project Start which aims to help people across the UK understand why and how to lead more sustainable lives. We welcome Start as the consumer facing brand of Mayday and an important step in the Mayday Journey. Start aims to inspire and support individuals to understand what a sustainable future looks like, that it is a better future, and how they might start moving towards it. Without the innovation and leadership of Mayday Network businesses, the sustainable products and services that businesses and individuals need to buy into in order to start this new way of living would not exist.

On Monday 6 September, HRH The Prince of Wales, founder of the Mayday Network, will commence a country-wide tour to celebrate sustainable community living. The Royal Train, which runs on sustainable bio fuel, will take HRH to ten different locations throughout Britain, where he will see how individuals, community groups and businesses are working in partnership to help people live more sustainable lives.

Business in the Community and our regional Mayday Teams have been instrumental in bringing together the many inspirational examples that HRH will visit. These include a community garden built on waste ground in Nottingham, a consumer advice centre in Bristol and a sustainable fashion show in Manchester. HRH will also see examples of public spaces being used to grow vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers for communal use in Todmorden and unveil a beehive as part of a Newcastle-wide scheme.

The week-long tour will culminate in - ‘A Garden Party to Make A Difference’ which is open to all members of the public in the gardens of Clarence House, Lancaster House and Marlborough House from the 8th to the 19th September 2010.

Leading Mayday businesses BT and IBM are holding business facing events as part of Start. On 9th September audiences in Birmingham and London will hear from Mayday businesses and young people on what has been done and what needs to happen next in the move towards a sustainable future. We'll also launch our 2010 Mayday report on that day. At Lancaster House the IBM Summit will look at specific elements of sustainability with thought leaders from across the world over the Start period.
