A South West Mayday gathering was held at the Start Living Centre in Cabot Circus Bristol last week. The event attracted senior business leaders from a variety of sectors including insurance, water, energy, tourism, legal, food and more.

There was an infectious energy in the room as attendees and speakers debated their role in creating truly transformational change towards a sustainable future. In the climate change and business resilience session, the delegates were challenged by Dr Vicky Pope from the Met Office alongside business leaders including David Symons of WSP Environment and Energy on employee involvement and Steve Wallace of National Grid on security of the energy network.

In the innovation and technology session, Prof Joe McGeehan of Toshiba outlined the range of innovative technologies under development while Dr Richard Miller of the Technology Strategy Board told the group about the low carbon technologies that are currently attracting interest and funding. David Symons said that ‘the quality of the discussion and the networking was some of the best that I've been part of recently’. We couldn’t agree more.
