    Green Kit – getting ready for the lights to change!

     The UK film industry contributes £4.5 billion to the Economy. It’s also responsible for an estimated 500,000 tonnes of carbon a year. Producers, cameramen and gaffers (film electricians) would like to be green, but a lack of affordable alternatives to power-hungry incandescent film lights make this difficult.

    A Tree Planting Day for The Mayday Team

    Last week was National Tree Planting Week and to celebrate The Mayday Team together with colleagues from Business in the Community braved the cold on Tuesday to support one of BITC's Award partners, the Woodland Trust, in their plan to create an 858 acre woodland in the Heartwood Forest in Herfordshire with 600,000 newly planted trees. Located near Sandridge just three miles north of St Albans in Hertfordshire, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform the site into the largest new continuous native forest in England.

    East Midlands now has a Mayday Network!

     Last week I attended the official launch of the East Midlands Mayday Network at Boots Head Office in Nottingham. The day was a big success with  representatives from regional businesses and government in attendance. The Network was officially launched by Alex Gourlay, Chief Executive, Health & Beauty Division, Alliance Boots.

    The Y&H Business UNUSUAL Conference

    I joined 160 business Leaders last Friday at ‘Business Unusual’, a full day conference organised by Business in the Community’s Yorkshire & Humber team. The Great Hall at Leeds University was buzzing as delegates began the day playing BT’s Better Business game, and working in teams to make difficult choices as they set up their future sustainable businesses. The game is a great way to get business people thinking about what the shift to a sustainable model will look like.

    The Carbon Masters Programme: free carbon audits and action plans for members

    The Prince’s Mayday Network Scotland, in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and the Carbon Trust, have created another innovative project to help our members reduce their carbon and increase their profits. This collaboration will provide members with a free carbon audit and action plan, completed by MSc students from the Carbon Management programme.

    Mayday & START in the West Midlands

    Following the great success of the Royal START Tour in September, organised by Business in the Community across the UK, the West Midlands focus is on seizing and building on the momentum to drive the Sustainability Revolution. One of the key steps in achieving this is a tangible link from START to the Mayday Network. To move this forward, on Wednesday 13th October members of the West Midlands Mayday Climate Change Leaders Group went back to school to hold their regular review meeting at Perryfields School in Oldbury.
