What is Mayday?

The Mayday Network is a collaboration of businesses taking action on climate change and resource depletion. In a non competitive space, Mayday businesses work together and with partners to seek out and promote the best solutions to the major environmental challenges we face. When taken to scale these new innovations contribute to creating the pathway to better ways of working and to a sustainable future in which businesses can prosper alongside a healthy environment and society. These tried and tested business solutions are stored on the free-to-access Mayday Sustainable Business Tracker.

The Mayday Campaign seeks to mobilize business on climate change and resource depletion. It is based on the premise that our economy and society will only reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and protect the natural world we all depend on if the business community is fully involved and committed to sustainability.

The Mayday Journey is an online resource documenting the simple steps that any company can take to take action on climate change from changing light bulbs through to changing mindsets.

Our Vision

Mayday envisions a low-carbon, resource efficient economy in which humans can flourish and prosper without reducing the biological integrity of the planet and therefore protecting the needs of future generations. Mayday sees business as having a central role in getting us there.

  • National vision: an active network of businesses around the UK and internationally who understand the opportunities and risks associated with climate change and resource depletion and who are taking action to mitigate their impacts and working (in collaboration where possible) towards a sustainable, prosperous future.
  • Regional vision: within the national network of businesses, regional sub-networks working together and with locally based  partners on regional challenges and solutions and recruiting regional companies .

Ultimately, Mayday aims to become nationally and internationally recognized as the business Network for businesses taking action on  climate change and resource depletion and  leading the world in the transition to a low carbon, sustainable economy.

Our Aims:

  1. Growth: increase awareness and membership
  2. Action: members take the most effective action on climate change and put plans in place to move towards fully sustainable business models
  3. Impact: the network achieves a 10% reduction in emissions against a 2008 baseline by 2012

Our Objective: mobilize business on climate change and catalyse the shift to a low carbon, sustainable economy.

International Mayday

Created as a UK initiative, the Mayday Network is now gaining momentum internationally. Working through the Global Partner Network we launched our first ‘country Mayday Network’ in Chile in 2009, with Accion RSE Interest from partners around the world has been phenomenal, and we look forward to updating on international plans as they develop.
