Annual Report-Back

The Mayday report-back 2010

REPORT-BACK FOR 2010 HAS NOW CLOSED. THE ANNUAL REPORT AND KEY FINDINGS WILL BE LAUNCHED IN SEPTEMBER 2010.

Once you have become a Mayday business, we ask that you report-back once a year on the progress you have made on your low carbon journey. The aim of this reporting process is to see how useful the Network is, to gather your stories and use them to inspire others, and to continue to challenge you to do still more. Your carbon data will be analysed as part of the network figure (but not individually profiled or benchmarked, we’ll leave that to the many others out there in that space) but we will spread your great stories as widely as we can.

Reporting back and telling your stories is an extremely important part of Mayday membership because:

  1. It reconfirms commitment from Mayday businesses to continue to heed the Mayday distress call and take concerted, committed and significant action towards tackling climate change together.
  2. It enables Business in the Community to report back to HRH the Prince of Wales and the wider Network and partners on the progress that we are making to reduce emissions and create better business models together. This includes how many Mayday businesses are disclosing to the CDP and achieving the Carbon Trust Standard for example.
  3. The process enables exciting stories from across business to be captured and shared. Inspirational stories of the ways in which Mayday businesses are rising to the challenge and successfully reducing emissions whilst making profits and enjoying other business benefits are pivotal to the move towards a low carbon economy.

Large companies with more than 250 employees

If you are already registered with Carbon Disclosure Project please proceed with the Carbon Disclosure Project reporting as normal. There is an option within this process to tick a box and submit your data and stories to the Mayday Network. The Mayday Network will not make your data available to anyone. We will use it to calculate the total emission reductions of the whole network. Your qualitative stories may be used to inspire others to take action as always.

If you have a mother company that is registered with the Carbon Disclosure Project that reports on behalf of the Group we understand that your group company is registered with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and reports on behalf of the Group. So long as this submission includes a breakdown of your subsidiary’s UK emissions then this fulfils your reporting requirement to the Mayday Network. Please can you ensure that the group company as well as all subsidiaries are signed up members of the Network, as this will enable us to make the best use of the data and to have the greatest reach. If your sub-company has the data to hand to complete the CDP survey and you wish to make an independent disclosure; please proceed. This data will be useful to us. Y ou can also simply email Matt Mellen this data (with your case studies / photos).

If you are not registered with the Carbon Disclosure Project and want to register due to data protection we need your permission to set your company up with an account on the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) website. This will enable you to report through CDP. If you are not already registered with the CDP please give us your permission to forward your contact details to the CDP allowing them to set up an account for you. If you have already done this your accounts will be ready by the end of March. In the mean time please find attached the following information to help you proceed with your preparations:

» CDP Questionnaire
» CDP Guidance

If you are not registered to the CDP and do not want to register. There are 2 ways that you can report to Mayday:

  1. Report back to Mayday using the small biz report back (which is simpler). This can be found here.
  2. If this information (carbon footprint + case studies) is captured in another document (e.g. annual report) please submit this to Matt Mellen.

As well as telling my stories, what do I get if I report to the Network?

Mayday businesses that report their carbon footprint annually are eligible to use the dated Mayday logo. This logo communicates that a business is on a journey that can lead it forwards to reducing its carbon emissions and becoming more sustainable. In terms of carbon emissions, we encourage all businesses to work towards the Carbon Trust Standard as the credible mark of ongoing reduction.

The report-back for 2010 closes at the end of April – if you have any questions please contact Matthew Mellen in the Mayday Team on 020 7253 1877.
